Our Practice

Many people mistakenly believe that their domestic relations matter is "just a simple case." Domestic relations cases tend to be anything but simple.

  • Even though the vast majority of divorces are indeed granted on the "no fault" ground of irreconcilable differences, complex and important issues remain. These may involve jurisdiction and venue; identification, valuation, and division of marital assets and debts; custody of and visitation with minor children; proper calculation and retroactive period of child support; and evaluation and prosecution or defense of an alimony/spousal support claim remain.
  • Official pro se (representing yourself in a court case) forms are readily available on the internet and at courthouses for some (but not all) family court situations, but completing these forms fully and correctly is another matter entirely and all too frequently beyond the capability of even well-educated, paperwork-savvy litigants.
  • Further, domestic relations matters involve a myriad of complex statutes, case law, evidentiary rules, procedural rules, and potentially the formal discovery process.

Legislatures and court systems are increasingly recognizing that domestic relations cases deserve to be treated as the serious legal matters that they are.

Whether the case is new, a modification, or a contempt/enforcement action, having an attorney committed to putting her knowledge and experience to work for you in representing your interests makes a difference. Our office will assist you in navigating the legal and emotional maze of your domestic relations matter. We take the time to discuss your concerns and changing situation. Attention to detail matters and could make thousands of dollars worth of difference. We do not merely rely on someone's unsupported guesstimate on financial issues. We pay particular attention to assisting parents in keeping their children out of the emotional middle of their court case and in learning how to communicate more effectively with their co-parent, both during the litigation and in the longer-term.
